Choking on the fools’ gold
on which they all lie –
handshakes exchanged
in the dead of night,
the slide of lips on glass
and the heady taste
of alcoholism throbs
through the crowd.

You’re living, breathing –
desperately gasping
with the waves
lapping at your necks.
One being, conjoined
at the hip and shoulder:
a multitude of instruments
tied inextricably together.

Floor tilting,
the perspective tips,
tumbling from a world
of straight lines and
precision-point turns;
the disease is spreading
slowly, slowly,
consuming our organs.

The city falls.

Occasionally I read something so good that I can't think what to say about it because I'm just momentarily overcome with envy.

Great imagery! Poetry, especially free form, I am exceptionally picky about what I like because I have encountered many that are mere ramblings with a good choice of work here and there. However, this poem of yours I can tell you carefully selected your words, how they were phrased, and how they were joined together (commas, dashes, etc). All of these you, in my eyes, have done very precisely. The dash between breathing ad desperately gasping beautifully emphasizes the struggle of life you seem to be portraying. I must say the final "paragraph" sums the rest up well and gives the final sentence great resonance that struck me. It's so simple, but how you built it up with the previous paragraphs and the choice to set it apart as an actual sentence (a regularly typed sentence) gives it weight. To be short, I'm in love!
